hörlurar

This is one of my favourite possessions, I found it in a girl’s photo album, from the 20s. The text on the back says “Som du ser, ligger det en hörlur och väntar på dig”, “As you can see, there’s a head phone waiting for you here.”

Here are some more thoughs/decisions of mine regarding this project of mine.

Structure
+ I made a Flickr collection for it here and added my vintage photos to it as they are things I’m sure I will keep.
+ I will take all the pictures the way I take merchandise pictures for my site.
+ I will rate things in some kind of a efficiency & use/affection-value-scale.
+ I will have to give a reason for wanting to keep the things I want to keep. The reason should be valid to myself, that is my main concern. Other people questioning me on this is interesting though, go ahead if you want to, not sure how much it will affect me in my decisions but still.
+ I will probably not photograph every tiny thing. Example: needles, I will not photograph each needle. I will however count how many needles I have and list that along with a photo of the tin jar they’re in.
+ I like the idea of having an exact count of every single item in my possession and this is the goal of it all I guess. That, and to narrow the amount of things down a lot also. And to document it, and to have to justify every thing in my possession.

Mattias!

Mattias
was here today to borrow clothes from Lily of the Valley for a photoshoot which I promise I will show here as soon as it’s published. He’s really talented & great in all sorts of ways, and you should all check out his Flickr right now!

With Åsa.

With Frej.

With Natalie a year ago.

With Marie, also about a year ago.

With Paulina when we were 15-16.

With Marie when we were 14-15.

Passport picture from when I was 17.

I was going to take an outfit picture but then I started taking pictures of our place instead. By some incredible luck my friend Kristina and I got a first hand contract on a five room apartment and now we live here with two others, Ulrika and Julia.
The furniture is about 1/3 thrifts, 1/3 found in dumpsters and 1/3 gifts. My blouse was a gift from Amelia and the pants were a gift from Åsa. The books in the shelf are about 95% mine and I have almost as many more at my parents house so I’ve got some serious reading to do.

This is my new favourite dress and first purchase of the year that wasn’t food or something like that, I got it at Emmaus the other week. It’s from the 50s and by a brand called Wahls which I have sold a few garments from in my store before, they always have really great fabric quality and this one is no exception.

I will always give the title in the language I read the book. I will also say if the book was audio, and if I borrowed it from someone. If I say neither you can assume it belongs to me and and is not an audiobook. I don’t have time or a real wish to write about what I felt about every single book but you’re welcome to ask if you’re curious ofcourse.

Almost exactly a year ago, (January 15th 2008) I wrote this in my livejournal.

“I am growing less and less attached to my material possessions and grossed out by owning to a point, which is now, that I am considering putting everything I own up on my site for sale and only own it until it’s sold. It means I’d have to put a price to all of it and let it go if that price is reached. And by everything I mean everything I own.. except things I really need for working and personal hygiene things & underwear.”

Since I still feel almost exactly the same way about my possessions although there are things I want to keep I have decided to do something similar, like this:

I will sell evething I don’t find neccessary to keep, either on Tradera, on some kind of yard sale/flea market or if it’s possible and fits with the other things I sell there, on my site. If there are things my friends want badly I will probably give them away but I can’t say I’ll give everything away because I am always short on cash, and rent is always nice to be able to pay.

The things I can’t part with for one reason or the other, I will document them one by one on my Flickr, with pictures and a description about why I want to keep them, where I got them and when and what they mean or don’t mean to me. This will be the Everything I Own-project. Kind of inspired by Dödbso. I will only post some kind of collages of what I’ve photographed and uploaded  on Flickr lately here so that I don’t spam you with possessions.

I already got rid of all my CDs and DVDs (except my Buffy boxes, haha). My books have been bothering me because I can’t seem to let go of them at all, I’m way too much of an information gatherer and need to have them around and I can’t concentrate on reading e-books or the like. Therefore I have decided to read/re-read all of them.  I started January 1st and my goal was one book/week but I’ve been better than that. I will list them too here. I will probably buy new books (in thrift stores) too because I get tempted. After I’ve been Reading All My Books I might give them away (/sell, but people seem to have a thing against paperbacks?? THE CONTENT IS THE SAME!!!), I haven’t decided that yet.

This is the plan, it might change as I continue but if it does, hopefully for the better. (Yes, I’m aware of that it will probably take ages. Might never end, in fact.)
