Here’s an inspirational video about growing food in your gardens. (found on http://transitionculture.org/ which is a great site!)
According to the newest issue of Camino magazine, the gardens of Sweden could if they were used for growing plants, support half the population with local grown, vegan food. I’m still waiting for my landlords permission to have a place in our garden where I could grow things.
Tomorrow I will go to Coop to exchange my water boiler for the second time in just a few months! The first time I went there I wanted to get it repaired but they handed me a new one right away instead. Which obviously sucked. The heater was a christmas gift from the start, and I really didn’t need a new store bought one, let alone two, or THREE! New electronic things obviously always suck. So I’ve decided to ask for the money back this time and go thrifting for one made in the 80s where things weren’t made to break in a few months.
I also found a list on how to cook environmentally friendly, on Naturskyddsföreningens site. Here it is in english:
+ Always put a lid on the pot and never boil anything on a higher temperature than neccessary.
+ Make use of the after heating.
+ Ceramic cooktops are better for the environment energy wise but there is no need to exchange your ordinary stove if it’s still working.
+ Electric water boiler is the fastest and least wasteful way to heat water. If everyone (in Sweden, I presume) heated their water with boilers, that would equal supporting 22.000 villas for a year.
+ Keep your stove surface clean to avoid leakage of energy.
A girl I know through a friend and who I gave kombucha to a while ago is giving me tempeh spores tomorrow! I’m really excited since I’ve only had tempeh twice, then they stopped selling it in the stores around Göteborg (from what I understand, anyway?)
Today I made sushi with tofu and paprika, it was excellent.
This is what I’m wearing today. Vintage silk dress – gift from my bosses Tights – from Indiska, long time ago, wouldn’t shop there now. Vintage pumps – bought from my friend Emma when she didn’t want them anymore
Check out the mending on the right flower and leaves! I didn’t notice them until I had worn the dress several times, I think it’s absolutely great that someone took the time to mend it like this. If you can’t find it, click the picture to go to Flickr and look at it in full size.

I keep updating, and started photographing the boring things a few days ago, keys and the like. This is my wallet which I am very fond of, especially since my friend Pierre gave me the Reinfeldt sticker. Looking through my things I find so many I don’t want to have around at all. Planning to rent a flea market table but am not sure about where that’d be possible here in Göteborg, does anyone of you know where you’re more likely to get rid of most of your unwanted things? I’m not particularly interested in getting loads of cash for them, I just don’t want to throw anything useful away and/or keep something I don’t want because I can’t get rid of it and can’t throw it because of previously mentioned reason.
i'm Karin, I'm 23 & live in Göteborg in Sweden. I run a vintage shop called Lily of the Valley. I like antique things, I buy way too many books with the last cash I own, I like drinking tea though I recently quit caffeine, I am interested in body modification, art, knowledge and Frej. I am a vegan and pretty involved in environmental issues. I've studied human ecology and CSR, going on to environmental revisioning this fall.
