Om du handlar hos Lily of the Valley under mars månad får du testa 5 nr av din lokala ETC-tidning utan extra kostnad!
+++ MultiColr is an awsome and quite addictive flickr photo finder thing where you chose up to 10 colours and it will find pictures with those colours present. (My tip: click beige! Beige is underappreciated!)
+++
I also just read through the entire Mythology of Carnivàle and now feel so enlightened! (And really sad that they cancelled it…)
+++
And I love love love Absolutely Fabulous, the only comedy show ever really worth watching! (And a few episodes of it can be streamed here!)
Patsy and Edina have been to a Marilyn Manson concert!
That was the first episode I ever saw and being a quite big Manson fan I was thrilled! :D
Internet at home isn’t working, we’re suspecting it has something to do with all the snow… blaming the snow for everything going wrong these days! Right now I’m at the school library waiting for a very late Linda (probably the snow is to blame for that aswell..)
I’ve been reading! Week 6, 7 & 8.
11. Bat Seba – Torgny Lindgren
+++
Not my favourite Torgny Lindgren book, probably my least favourite. Though I do really like to read about romans so I still liked it. And even a least favourite book by his is better than most other books you know…
12. Thinking about development – Björn Hettne
???
This is a school book. It was interesting and structured my head up a bit more on what to think about how the world is shaped as of now. Not much more to say, not well read enough in the subject of development to critique it anyway.
13. Wto bakom fasaden – Susan George
+++
A short pamphlet about the WTO, what it does, what Attac wanted in 2001 etc… some really good facts and some that I guess are pretty dated now almost 10 years later. I thought it was fitting with the development studies so I read it in like an hour and felt a bit more sane afterwards.
14. Vägen (The Road, that is) – Cormac McCarthy
++
I really did not like this book much at all, and I expected I would. Mainly I just can’t stand short sentences for some kind of dramatic effect. Reminds me too much of a pile of annoying swedish bloggers… Sentence not common in my head: the movie was better than the book. (A bit of my liking of it was of course related to the fact that Nick Cave & Warren Ellis made the music for the film… which lead me to my next thought of disappointment which was Nick liked the book??) I still very much like the subject & story but the language was just too much (or too little) for me to enjoy it.
(I don’t know if I’ve mentioned it but I am taking Global Development studies for half this school year before going back to Human Ecology, because I’ve already taken the classes the rest of the human ecology class is reading right now)
Where you can still get four different ones, though they will never be as good as in the old automats! By the way it is so snowy here in Sweden now, the roof at the station caved in the other day, from the weight of it. Along with heaps of other roofs apparantly.
Managed to upload two more now before it stopped working again! Here’s what I wore from thursday until sunday straight since I wasn’t home to change. Though at Frej’s place I mainly wore his black robe anyway… (and yes I know I’ve worn almost exactly this outfit in outfit picture before, sorry for being boring but I like these pictures!)
What I wore
Vintage dress – modified by me from a full length plain skirted dress since it was badly stained and this was a good way to hide it Belt – from Johanna & Mattias’ cleanout a while back Underskirt – thrifted Tights – Rut mfl
I’ve been struggling for an hour almost, to upload the pictures from this weekend but my internet connection is too crappy for that to work. I got three up finally! A tiny bit of Frej in his hooded cambodian (?) outfit that he wore to prom once upon a time… <3
I started using a red eyebrow pencil (or really it’s actually a lip liner but I don’t care…) instead of a brown one and I like it way better!
Week one of exams is over! Now I have a one week home exam in my last course, because I didn’t take the exam in december because I was in Copenhagen instead.
This weekend I was at a pub with my class to celebrate the exam being over. The day after that I was at Frejs place while he was out on a little field trip to try and survive in the wilderness… it was snow chaos day and all of Göteborg was snowed in, buses cancelled etc so I pitied him quite a bit but he seemed pleased when he got back in the evening anyway.
Went to a Nöjesguiden party with Johanna, Mattias and Pim on friday! Have a few pictures but it’s impossible to upload them. Met Evelyn and Lotta and my old flatmate Kristina and lots of other lovely people. Got a bit too drunk though and have now decided for a white month. Also Frej and I will try and do at least one week of fasting starting March 8th. Hopefully even two. Frej has managed to pull through with that before and will guide me. Will probably be terrible since I love eating more than most other things in life but I want to have tried it for real at least once.
The day after that Frej and I hung out at his place pretty snowed in again, and watched a cute little documentary on dumpster diving which you can watch online here (It’s in English) and some other interesting documentaries about things such as lobotomies & landgrabbing which are also streamable on the magnificent SVT site, though those are both in Swedish.
And now I’m going to make more useful things to justify me staying home from school. So far I have: structured up my home exam, done one round of laundry, checked my bank for new customer payments & payed my bills. I will write one more page of my exam today, make sushi & vacuum the living room and kitchen of the collective, read six chapters of my litterature and clean my room!
Today I’m studying for an exam this thursday but Frej & I took a break from our duties to go to Emmaus by Hjalmar Brantingsplatsen where I bought a book about the WTO. Frej bought two very terrible sitting sacks in patterned 90s fabrics, don’t know the proper word for those in english. He is now in the process of sewing new covers for them but I hear him moaning angrily because the sewing machine isn’t working very well so we’ll see how that goes… Ok now he gave up.
What I wore.
Knitted beret – thrifted
Scarf – from Adina
Jacket – thrifted
Gloves – thrifted
Bag – Originally Micans, via Frej
70s dress – thrifted
Tights – bought about five years ago somewhere, indiska perhaps.
Shoes – thrifted
This is what my view is like. I love those shoes, thrifted them in Stockholm.
Breakfast this morning. Frej makes his own soy milk which he then keeps in that lovely tea pot.
He has also just bought this trophy for drinking water out of.
What I’m reading now (LOVE it!)
Frej had also thrifted a ceramic bird flute thingie… lergök.
These two are from yesterday when I was at my place & very pleased with having been to the dentist which I totally love!! (Bordering on fetishising it…) I got dental insurance for three years & lots of praise over my good teeth!
I guess valentines day is an appropriate day to post this playlist… Haven’t celebrated or anything, Frej went home early and I was going to go to him later in the evening but then I realised I have to stay in Kortedala so that I can get up early and go to the dentist tomorrow. When I fell in love with Frej almost 2 years ago now (!) & stalked him up convinced destiny was in the works I also had a playlist made on the site muxtape that I thought described my emotions properly. I just tried to recreate it from my memory with quite a lot of success…
Click for playlist.
Though Stella Maris is not supposed to be the mixed version, it was this one:
And then there was this song which was the only one I couldn’t find on Spotify.
Some pictures from the burlesque club Tip the Velvet which we were at yesterday night for their Very Valentine evening! A few of the pictures are taken by Bettan & edited by me. Some are from my camera, some from Carins… Had a very nice night out! Stopped by Åsas party first, she had baked insanely tasty cakes (I had to eat some) and gave us punch & nice company with a lot of people I hadn’t seen in ages! Sadly we couldnt stay as long as I would have wanted!
We arrived at Tip the Velvet and found Bettan! I borrowed the lashes from Frej & made the little hat thingie with a brooch and some hat netting.
I was going to wear this pink ballgown first but Carin begged me to be wear less clothes so that she wouldn’t feel as naked herself so I obliged!
Crazies!
Carin, Bettan and I.
Carin & Jacob
Frej and I
Frej chews on my cheek. He built the chain thingie with faux earrings & chain
Pretty people!
Bettan and I again
Performances, we missed most of them because it was a bit too crowded to try to get to where us short people can actually see anything. This is Bettans picture, I only saw the top of their heads…
More peoplez
Evelyn on a chair she had when she was performing. And Bettan…
Charming!
We all went back to my place and slept there. Today has been the hungover day here,… with a lot of pizza and falafel. (Sometimes I really love living 5 meters from a pizzeria even though the pizza is not available for me anymore since they put egg in the dough, sad sad!) Then Bettan and I went out and found in the trash outside or place: a little shelf for the collective’s hallway, a fantastic crying child painting that Bettan brought with her home and a lot of fabric!
i'm Karin, I'm 23 & live in Göteborg in Sweden. (grew up in Jönköping.) I run an online vintage shop called Lily of the Valley.
I like antique things, I buy way too many books with the last cash I own, I am interested in body modification, art, knowledge and Frej. I am a vegan and pretty involved in environmental issues. I've studied human ecology and CSR, going on to environmental revisioning this fall..
