Dream of Life
Posted by lilykarin on juli 14th, 2010 . Filed under: Music .A week or so before we were going to the Roskilde festival I found out that I had a work shift picking up refund at the time Patti Smith was going to play… and that noone was allowed to change shifts. I cried the whole rest of that day and was terribly sad for another day or two after that aswell. I whined about this to everyone (mostly to Frej, I was a real pain in the ass to him and said I didn’t want to go to the festival anymore, since she was the only thing I really wanted to see.. but he cheered me up again pretty good, and besides I couldn’t back out of the refund collecting, nor seeing my dear festival friends.) A day or two into the festival I realised she would play at the opening of the festival aswell and got a bit happier again (even though it was a memorial for the people who were killed in a stage accident 10 years prior, so I can’t really say I was that *happy*), we went there and I got to see her play two or three songs. Then they also showed a documentary on her at the Roskilde Cinema!
It was a very beautiful documentary, I found that trailer to be quite lame in comparison. I think you should all watch it ’cause she’s a hero.
Anyway, fate came to my rescue again after that. On the day we were going to our work shift to pick up refund, the leaders told us that our schedule had been changed and that group was to pick up refund next to the stages instead of at the camping as we had done the other two work shifts!! So after all that whining and crying I could just skip my lunch break and go watch her instead! Suckiest day became best day in a long time thanks to that! And she was amazing of course but I bet she always is.

I loved that documentary. Her book Just Kids is a touching read too that focuses more on her relationship with Robert Mapplethorpe.

The book is on my reading list since a long time, but I haven’t been able to afford it… Will definitely read though!

Sounds very neat, though I am too poor this summer to buy any books other than the ones for about a dollar at the thrift stores… in fall, I can read Patti!
