Q: Have you done much traveling, outside of Scandinavian countries? If you could, would you like to live somewhere else, or do you love it a lot where you are already?
A: I have never been outside Europe. I’ve been to France a couple of times, and Italy, Spain, Hungary on the synchronized swimming exercise trip from hell, England and Germany but that’s it I think. I don’t think living elsewhere would fit me very well, perhaps for short periods of time but I don’t think I’d move somewhere abroad and stay there. I really like this town and feel that I could live in the apartment where I live now for ever pretty much, if I only had good people to live with forever.
Q: Do you have any political role-models that inspire your “fight against the unfairness”?
A: I think that Isabella Lövin does a fantastical job, as does Ofog, Klimax Rena Kläder /Clean Clothes and many many more. Isabella was the only one I can think of right now that is one particular person. But if the question is if I have a role model as in someone I’d like to do the same as, then I don’t think I have anyone. I think larger movements and tendencies in the society are more interesting than the works of particular persons. Also I like a bunch of writers and thinkers but they’re not role models in the sense that I view them as someone I’d like to emulate since I don’t think I’d ever want to write a book. But they have good brains.
Q: I’m in love with your hair and was wondering how you style it? Is it just pinned up haphazardly?
Yep, it is. I never use hair products, I don’t comb it and I put about four pins in strategical places every morning and comb the bangs. (And thank you!)
Q: Are you vegan, or vegetarian?
I am a vegetarian that eats probably about 95% vegan food…. (the only exceptions are pretty much that I will steal Susannes milk to put in my tea if I’m out of soy milk and the store is closed, if I am hungover and really need a pizza I need to go to the pizzeria I live next to that I think put milk in their dough, or if I am at my grandparents.) I might start eating completely vegan soonish though, thought about it for a very long time now and it’s the most reasonable thing for me. We’ll see about when that happens.I highly doubt (or I know) that I wouldn’t stop buying vintage leather/silk etc so I don’t think I’d call myself vegan, only my dietary choices.
Q: You seem to be quite a politically charged person; what inspired you? Were you an environmental activist before you met Frej?
I don’t know if it’s inspiration so much as just pure amazement over how badly run the world is. It’s impossible to stay oblivious to. I’ve been politically active on and off since I was about 14, but it’s been pretty much impossble in the town where I used to live to do much since there was no organization I wanted to be in. Also for long times I’ve been to tired with/disappointed in the people of the movements that I have shut down completely to activism and resorted to reading & studying, doing my thing on my own and being annoyed with the world. But now I’ve switched towns to a good one for what I want to do in that department!
Short answer to the second question is: I was, and he was not before he met me.
Long answer is that I am completely amazed that people (not you who asked the question as much as people I actually know, I’ve been asked this before) would assume that even though I’ve studied corporate social responsibility, ethical lifestyles, environmental politics and run a business based on all vintage and handmade from vintage material, I still wouldn’t be interested in the environmental issues of the world if it wasn’t for my boyfriend. Being able to be more active in those issues are mainly a matter of 1) location b) good company in the sense that I do need someone to bring with me to study groups and organizational meetings or I will be too shy to do much at all. Frej has gotten more and more involved in environmental issues nowadays which I am happy about, he’s really more of an animal rights guy and has been for a very long time. (We grew up in the same town and I always knew a little of who he was and that he was vegan/sXe. I remember when I was about 14 I thought he was cute becasue he used to wear a cap with the red star and looked like Che Guevara but then my friend Lina said he was so sXe he wouldn’t eat chocolate and then I thought he was strange instead) And though he for sure is the reason for me connecting veganism with environment more and more, he is not the reason for me to be politically active nor is he the reason for me to be an environmentalist or interested in the huge issues that are connected to consumption.
